Open Call for Artists:

Scope:

The Small Town Center, with help from the Starkville Area Arts Council, is developing a Public Art Plan for Starkville. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, this plan will establish a set of goals and objectives for the implementation of engaging and culturally relevant public art across the entire community.  The project will also assist in the creation of 3 public art projects that will kick off the implementation of this Public Art Plan. Artists may choose from one of the following sites for their proposal:

1. McKee Park/Sportsplex campus –

Considerations: These are family-friendly spaces centered around recreation. Consider an art installation that is durable and appropriate for a young audience.

Suggested art installation type: sculpture within McKee Park, mural on Sportsplex, or interactive

405 Lynn Ln, Starkville, MS 39759

2. J.L. King Center campus –

Considerations: The J.L. King Center is an asset to the community but has low visibility from the street. Consider an art installation that increases visibility.

Suggested art installation type: sculpture, signage, or interactive

Westside Park, 700 N Long St, Starkville, MS 39759

3. Walkway to Parking (near Starkville Café on University Drive) –

Considerations: This space links public parking to the main downtown corridor but is currently underutilized. Consider an art installation that makes this space a desirable destination.

Suggested art installation type: lighting, projection, or temporary/rotating

Between 209 and 211 E Main St, Starkville, MS 39759
